Mental authority: the place matters more than the reasoning

You have the best arguments in the world and no certainty. For you it is not reasoning that decides, it is where you are when you decide.

An authority that is not one

This configuration applies to Projectors with no defined centre below the Throat. Concretely: no internal mechanism decides.

The name is misleading and this is acknowledged within the system itself. It is not about deciding with the mind : the mind is not meant to decide for anyone. It is about a decision that runs through the outside. Some call it environmental authority, which better describes what happens.

Place as the criterion

The decisive information is not in the content of the thought but in the context in which it occurs.

The same question examined in two different places, or with two different people, does not produce the same answer. That is not inconsistency: that is the mechanism.

Three practical markers:

Distrusting your own arguments

This is the trap specific to the type. The quality of analysis produced is often high, these are frequently good advisers for other people.

But producing a good analysis and deciding well are two different things. Analysis is for understanding and articulating. It does not decide, and mistaking it for the decision leads to defending, at length, choices that do not hold.

What changes day to day

On important decisions. Examine them in several places, over several days, with several people. Convergence is the conclusion.

On where you live and work. This is the main lever, more than method or organisation.

On the people around you. Saying you are looking for a sounding board rather than an opinion prevents ending up following whoever was most convincing.

Where to start

  1. Confirm the configuration by calculation.
  2. Take a live decision into three different places over a week, and note what changes.
  3. Track your energy by location for two weeks. The pattern is usually clear.

If a description does not speak to you, do not force it. These lenses exist to name what you already recognise.

Frequently asked questions

Why call it an authority if nothing inside decides?

The term is misleading and that is acknowledged. There is no inner authority in the sense the other types have: clarity comes from outside. Some call it environmental authority, which describes the mechanism better.

So should I ask for advice?

No, talk to several people, which is different. Their opinion is not the point; what matters is hearing the question resonate across several contexts. Following the advice of a single person is the main error of this configuration.

How do I know whether an environment suits me?

Through the body rather than analysis: energy level, quality of sleep, how easily you think there. A place that suits you shows up in making things simple, not in looking suitable on paper.

Is reasoning useless then?

It is for understanding and articulating, not for deciding. That is the decisive nuance: someone with mental authority can produce an excellent analysis and still follow it in the wrong direction, because the analysis was never the decision mechanism.
